Long Hill First Aid Squad Invites Families to Trunk or Treat

The Long Hill First Aid Squad is inviting families to a free afternoon of costumes, candy and Halloween fun at its Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The event will run from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the back parking lot of Long Hill Town Hall, 915 Valley Road in Gillette. Families are encouraged to come in costume and enjoy a relaxed, community-centered celebration with no registration required.

Trunk or Treat offers children a familiar Halloween experience in one shared setting: decorated vehicles, festive displays and stops for treats. This year’s event will also welcome community members who would like to take part by decorating a vehicle. Set-up begins at 12:30 p.m., and prizes will be awarded for the first-, second- and third-place decorated trunks. Those interested in entering a vehicle or seeking more information may contact Michele at michele.lipkin@verizon.net.

The occasion is a natural extension of the First Aid Squad’s role in the community. Long Hill has been served by the squad’s volunteers since 1993, when the Millington First Aid Squad and Township of Passaic First Aid Squad joined to coordinate emergency medical services. The township reports that the squad answered 660 emergency calls in 2024, while also providing CPR and first-aid education, event standby coverage and mutual aid to neighboring communities.

That day-to-day service is serious work, but events such as Trunk or Treat offer a chance for families to meet the volunteers who help protect the township in a cheerful setting. For children, it can turn an ambulance seen during an emergency into a familiar symbol of neighbors helping neighbors.

Parents and caregivers can bring the family, enjoy the decorated trunks and make an early start on Halloween memories. The event is free, costume-friendly and designed to make the Town Hall parking lot a festive stop for Long Hill families on an October Saturday afternoon.
